OCI BMX Championships

From Wednesday 24th to Sunday 28th July 2013 New Zealand will play host to the world’s best BMX riders in July. For the first time, the UCI BMX World Championships will be staged in this country, to be held in the Vector Arena on the Auckland waterfront

New Zealand will boast an overall team of more than 800 for the Challenge (age group) classes on Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 July and the Elite World Championships on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 July.

The BikeNZ elite team is led by London Olympic silver medallist and 2009 World Champion, Sarah Walker and fellow Cambridge rider Marc Willers, a World Championship podium placegetter in 2011 and London Olympian.

Kurt James - BMX Rider

Kurt James joins us to talk about BMX racing and to tell us a bit about how this weekends racing will pan out. Kurt comes from a competitive school Cricket and rugby background but let these sports go when leaving school in 2009. BMX racing has been his focus since! Kurt only 21 has been a member of the BikeNZ High performance program for 4 years along side fellow Avanti rider Sarah Walker. Kurt has been a regular on the UCI World Cup circuit and competing in numerous World Championships from the age of 12.
